We may end up on a visit to one of them on Sunday afternoon. \n \nFood and Accommodation:\nFree at Jim’s house. Book early and you may get a bed. Otherwise\, bring a sleeping bag and floor space available. If you need privacy\, then bring a tent as the garden is big. Dogs very welcome but they are not allowed to chase the sheep! Or the cows! DESCRIPTION:Join me in my home county ready to climb some classic rock routes\, some lesser known inland crags and everything in between! \nInfo: The plan is as follows but is subject to change… \nDrive down on Friday evening and leave on the Sunday after climbing all weekend. Climb in the South West area\, around the classics in Sennen\, Chair Ladder and Bosigran all day Saturday. \nThen on Sunday drive home diverting to Roche Rock. Roche Rock is an outcrop of rock with ruins of a Gothic chapel built on top with an altered granite rock type with ‘gritstone-like friction.’ Grades ranging from D – E4! \nAccommodation: Probably at YHA Land’s End\, (St Just-in-Penwith\, Cornwall\, TR19 7NT). Hostel rooms\, bell tents\, camping pods and camping are all options. SUMMARY:Selvaggio Blu – The Wild Blue (Will & Lilla’s Trip)
DESCRIPTION:Selvaggio Blu\nSaturday 29thst April  to Saturday 6th May 2023 \nThis is a big one\, the ‘Wild Blue’\, a 4 to 5 day trek through one of the last pieces of wilderness on the Mediterranean coast and considered one of the best (and hardest) walks in Europe. Along the way there will be beautiful beaches\, scrambling up to grade IV\, several abseils\, jaw-dropping views\, and wild camping every night. Pop it into a Google image search and then get in touch! 😊  \nWe have these dates pencilled in the park authority’s diary\, so they are unlikely to change (again). Permit numbers per day for this walk are restricted and although there is currently good availability this may change. I’m also keen to get organised reasonably early so that we can get decent deals on flights\, accommodation\, etc.\, so please get in touch soon if you want to share these costs!  \nTo limit what we must carry and due to the lack of natural water sources we will be hiring a company to provide food and water drops to us\, at the end of each day. However\, walking will be over rough ground\, with plenty of assent and decent\, whist carrying your bivouac and abseil equipment\, along with food and water for the day\, so a good level of fitness will be required.   \nThere are also lots of other walking and climbing options around Santa Maria Navarresse. So\, this would also be a good opportunity for anyone who would like to visit the surrounding area to either\, stay on after the walk or to do your own thing whilst we are walking and join up with those doing the walk afterwards.  \nIf you would like to join this trip contact me and I will send you a more detailed information pack. Due to the logistics and permit restrictions the number of places in the group is limited\, so if you are keen to join contact me early. That said\, if the trip proves popular\, I would be happy to help someone else organise a second group.  \n\nThe Plan \nSeveral of us will be flying out on Friday the 28th April\, to get a head start on arranging supplies and permits. You’re welcome to join us if you want to split the cost of car hire or feel free to fly out on the Saturday if you want to save a day’s annual leave.   \nFriday the 28th April  \nFly out\, pick up the hire car(s)\, drive to Santa Maria Navarresse.  \nSaturday the 29th April  \nPick up our permits\, buy supplies and drop them off with the logistics company. Anybody not flying out on Friday will have to join the group at some point today.  \nSunday the 30th April – Thursday the 4th May\, walk the Selvaggio Blu!   \nWe are aiming to do the medium length variation of the walk (Santa Maria Navarresse to Cala Sisine) over 5 days\, the daily times\, and distances vairy from 3.5 to 10.5 hours\, and 2 to 19 km. I have made a detailed itinerary of route options\, with daily distances and grade breakdowns and will send it out as part of the information pack\, just get in touch. We will discuss as a group which option\, we would like to take\, once I know who is interested.  \nFriday the 5th onwards  \nYou can then either head straight home on the 5th or decide head back with me on the 6th. Alternatively there are there are lots of other walking and climbing options in the area\, if you want to stay longer.  \n\nWhat to bring \nA detailed recommended kit list is in the information pack\, just get in touch. The walk is usually tackled in a ‘fast and light’ style\, so a bivvy instead of a tent is recommended and minimal gear for wild walking\, scrambling\, and abseiling will be shared amongst the group.  \n\nServices \nThere is and outdoor shop\, as well as food shops and restaurants in Santa Maria Navarresse.   \n\nAccommodation \nThere are lots of Airbnb options in Santa Maria Navarresse for before and after the walk\, which one we go for will depend on the group size. Bivouacs are the recommended option whilst walking but a light tent is also possible\, if you are willing to carry it.   \n\nFood \nIt is not realistic to carry all the food and water required to complete this trek independently\, as such several outdoor companies in the area offer logistical services. They will drop off food and water for us at our designated camping spot at the end of each day\, either by boat or 4×4. As a group we will need to provide our own food and water packaged and labelled for each day and drop this off with them before we set out.  \n\nTransport \nA hire car is the best way to get to Santa Maria Navarresse\, as well as get around the island after the trek. DESCRIPTION:This year’s AGM will be hosted (again) by Keith at his home on the Welsh Borders. The venue provides easy access to Snowdonia as well as some local venues for excellent trad\, sport and bouldering. \nArrive Friday for a BBQ and to plan the following day’s activities which are likely to include a full day of trad in the National Park. \nThe AGM will be held on Saturday evening. As ever\, an agenda will be posted by the President\, Vice President and Secretary at least one month before. If you wish to add anything\, then please raise this as early as possible. Then\, your views or discussion points will be included. \nAt this stage\, the plan for Sunday is likely to be a trip to Llangollen where people can choose between trad\, sport and/or bouldering. \nAccommodation: Keith’s place offers a mix of indoor accommodation and plenty of riverside camping. Indoors will be on a first come\, first served basis so book early if you don’t want to camp. There may be a voluntary contribution scheme in place. \nFood: Bring your favourite BBQ food or something to chuck in the Aga. \nServices: Oswestry is 8 miles away which provides everything most people will need. \nTransport: Car is best… Otherwise\, arrive at Gobowen by train or Oswestry by bus and we will pick you up if you give us enough time to coordinate. Staying at the SYHA in Aviemore. Winter hill-walking and low grade winter routes available in the Northern Corries. More punchy stuff available too for the experienced. SUMMARY:Return to the Jotunhiemen: Dirtbag Trip II 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join Jim and Andrew for another Norwegian adventure to the Jotunhiemen (postponed from last year). Glaciers\, trad rock routes up massive rock\, alpine summits and really expensive weak beers\, back at the hut\, epic driving across wide open spaces\, getting washed in the sink at the petrol station\, sleeping at the airport… something for everyone. \n  \nJoin Jim and Andrew for another Norwegian adventure to the Jotunhiemen. Aim to arrive at Guardemoen Oslo airport August… Dates to be confirmed. Pick up the car and drive up to the Juvasshytte in the Jotunhiemen. Spend 4 nights in the hut and tick off some multi-pitch rock\, glacier trips\, and maybe some summit hill walks. \nThen plans are flexible but generally head back south and get some more trad or local sport climbing in before reaching the airport and staying overnight before returning. \nFor those wishing to attend this trip as a first alpine experience\, then the ascent of Galdhopiggen is a very easy and safe glacier approach and the summit is the highest in Northern Europe. If you are new to glacier travel\, then please check with Jim very early on\, so that you can practice and perfect your skills before the trip. You will need additional equipment including crampons but Jim can lend you an ice axe. \n  \nServices: \nThe airport has reasonable supplies\, as do shops on the road up to the Jotunhiemen and the hut. Beware\, prices aren’t cheap! \n  \nAccommodation: Find it here \nWild camping also available\, 500m away from the hut. \n  \nFood: \nEither bring your own or rely on the hut… or a bit of both. \n  \nTransport: \nJim and Andrew flying to and from Guardemoen Oslo airport… be aware that three airports serve Oslo and the other two are a few hours south. British Airways flies from LHR to OSL. \nCars are the new eco option… You will need to factor in car transport. There’s a huge amount of rock here with routes of all grades from single to multi-pitch – bouldering too – and Jim says it’s great! \nWe’ll be focussed on Reiff\, north-west of Ullapool (Coigach & Assynt)\, but there’s a variety of places to visit. For those that prefer scrambling or walking\, Stac Pollaidh is about 20-30 minutes’ drive away\, Suilven\, Canisp\, and Ben More Assynt are within an hour’s drive\, there are many other mountains in this broader area. And then\, of course\, there’s the Old Man of Stoer about 90 minutes’ away… I’m contemplating going for a full week in May/June 2022 (to avoid midges\, especially on the coast!) but people could do a long weekend\, either end of the week. \n  \nServices: \nThe main town is Ullapool about 45 minutes’ drive from Rieff/Achiltibuie\, it has a Tesco\, food outlets\, bank/ATM and shops\, hotels\, cottages\, and a bunkhouse. Otherwise\, it’s the pubs mentioned below. \n  \nAccommodation: \nThere’s a campsite there\, at Port a Bhaigh (also good for kayaking and fishing)\, with some 40 spaces for campervans/motorhomes\, a shop and a pub\, the Am Fuaran Bar\, run by the owners of the site: www.portabhaig.co.uk. Another hotel/bar is the Summer Isles Hotel a little beyond the village. There’s also a small hostel with ‘sleeping pods’ 2 miles further south of the Summer Isles Hotel\, Acheninver Hostel. There’s a couple of cottages\, one sleeps up to 10 but I think a couple of these are kids’ bunks. \n  \nFood: \nFood outlets and supermarket in Ullapool as above\, also at the bars mentioned above. There’s a village store in Achiltibuie. \n  \nTransport: \nI imagine most will drive\, but you could fly to Inverness and hire a car from there\, probably about a 2-hour drive from the airport. Trains look a bit tricky\, with lots of changes. Nordic friends\, get in touch with Jim to coordinate pick up and passage… He’ll do what he can.

DESCRIPTION:This year’s AGM will be hosted by VP Keith at his new(ish) home in the Welsh Borders. The venue provides easy access to Snowdonia as well as some local venues for excellent trad\, sport and bouldering. \nArrive Friday for a BBQ and to plan the following day’s activities which are likely to include a full day of trad in the National Park. \nThe AGM will be held on Saturday evening. As ever\, an agenda will be posted by the President\, Vice President and Secretary at least one month before. If you wish to add anything\, then please raise this as early as possible. Then\, your views or discussion points will be included. \nAt this stage\, the plan for Sunday is likely to be a trip to Llangollen where people can choose between trad\, sport and/or bouldering. \nAccommodation: Keith’s place offers a mix of indoor accommodation and plenty of riverside camping. Indoors will be on a first come\, first served basis so book early if you don’t want to camp. \nFood: Bring your favourite BBQ food or something to chuck in the Aga. \nServices: Oswestry is 8 miles away which provides everything most people will need. \nTransport: Car is best… Otherwise\, arrive at Gobowen by train or Oswestry by bus and we will pick you up if you give us enough time to coordinate. SUMMARY:Scottish Winter Trip to the Cairngorm
DESCRIPTION:Staying at Aviemore SYHA Map ref OS 36 (GR893119) telephone no: 01479 810 345 email: aviemore@syha.org.uk \n  \nPlans are to climb in Coire an t-Sneachda\, Coire na Lochain and Hell’s Lum (to name a few) – there are plenty of Grade 1 and 2 climbs\, so good introductory climbs and lots to push the grade. Some big Grade 3\, 4 and 5s as well\, so good stuff for the bold. The walk-ins are quite easy\, a drive up to Cairngorm car park\, then about 1 to 2 hour walk in on reasonably easy ground for the nearest routes. \nThe hostel has kitchens and you can bring your own food. Plenty of shops in Aviemore to buy food if you need to. The Skiing Doo is the cheap bar/restaurant we will go to during the trip and we normally finish off with a big night out at one of the hotel restaurants on the last night (Tuesday). \nSomething for everyone but there is a focus for those who are planning a first trip to the Alps (watch out for that) to get some ice axe and crampon practice in… and maybe some crevasse rescue practice too\, if it doesn’t get in the way of climbing… \nPlease get in touch with Jim if you want to go and he may be able to sort some kit. Winter climbing equipment can be hired from Ellis Brigham in Aviemore https://www.ellis-brigham.com/stores/aviemore. \nLikewise\, any Danes interested (you should be) then please get in touch with Jim. DESCRIPTION:Dave Gent and  Andrew will be heading to the Lake District on Monday Feb 7th for 4 and a half days of Wainwright bagging. If the weather and rock is dry\, they will be doing scrambles en route to the summits. They’re also hoping there will be some snow and ice on the tops so they can get some winter walking and mountaineering in. Potential Wainwrights include Allen Crags\, Glaramara\, Rosthwaite Fell\, Seathwaite Fell\, Eagle Crag\, Sergeant’s Crag\, Ullscarf\, and even Great Gable\, Great End and Esk Pike. \nThe hostel has a bar\, serves breakfast and evening meals\, and has free wi-fi. Besides the usual selection of rooms\, camping is available and they also have glamping pods. Bad day at the crag? \nYou need a climbing training day to strengthen your leg muscles\, perfect your footwork and reset your neural pathways! \nCome and join us for a Christmas walk and get together on Sunday 19th December\, 9.30am at Nether End Car Park\, Church Lane\, Baslow DE45 1SR. \nOur route takes us from Baslow along the River Derwent via the Derwent Heritage way before ascending through Hay Wood to the start of Froggatt Edge. From here we’ll make our way following three beautiful edges\, Froggatt Edge\, Curbar Edge and Baslow Edge before descending through the woodlands to return back to Baslow. \nHighlights include the Derwent river valley\, stunning views from the edges\, a festive coffee with the ‘Grit for Christmas’ climbing trip and numerous cake stops. \nThis is a circular walk of 11 miles with options to start the walk at different points\, so suitable for families or tired/injured climbers who wish to do a shorter walk! DESCRIPTION:Arrive Friday 17th December late in the evening. Meet up early at the crag (we’ll decide this on Friday when we know the weather) early and chase the grades and the routes. Climb Saturday and repeat Sunday before the drive home…\nStaying in Edale so the usual haunts means the Eastern Gritstone edges… Stanage\, Burbage\, Froggatt and Curber\, Gardom’s and Birchen. If time and weather permit\, then maybe get some bouldering in too. For those who prefer sport and limestone\, the quarries around Stony are not too far away. There are enough circular routes and pubs for those who prefer to go for a walk. I am hoping to convince a few of the Manchester or Nottingham crowd out for the day but if you are keen for a longer stay\, please get in touch with Jim. \nAccommodation and Food:\nStaying at Newfold Farm in Edale and the link is HERE . Cheap and fine… There are shops in Hathersage to buy food and a small outlet at the campsite. A few garages on the drive in have reasonable supplies. We’ll probably eat at the pub over the road on Friday and Saturday night. SUMMARY:Dave’s South West Lakes “Adventurous Wainwrights” Trip
DESCRIPTION:Dave and Andrew will be resuming their quest for more adventurous ways of ascending the Wainwrights as Dave continues to tick off his second round. We will be staying in Eskdale and the plan includes scrambles up to Grade 3\, including Green Crag\, Harter Fell and Middle Fell\, Yewbarrow or Red Pike. Scafell may also be on the agenda. \nDetails\nWe are booked in at The Woolpack Inn and the YHA in Eskdale. We will arrive early on Tuesday 5th October for a full day of action. This gives us 3 full days and a short day on Friday before we return home. \nServices and Food\nThere’s a small grocery store in Holmrook\, a 10-minute drive from the Inn\, but we will rely largely on breakfast and lunch that we bring or buy at the accommodation\, and we will eat at the Inn. If you need any kit\, you’ll have to head to Kendal (about an hour’s drive). \nAccommodation\nDave is booked into The Woolpack and Andrew is at the YHA. SUMMARY:Portland Bill DWS Trip
DESCRIPTION:Come and make the most of the sunny south coast in the middle of summer! \nIf you’ve never tried DWS then Portland is a great spot to start. Access to the routes is easy\, grades go down to sport 4+\, and there are plenty of short routes over very deep water (including several traverses where you’re only just off the surface). Add to this high tides through the middle of the day\, on both days and it’s like bouldering with a large\, blue\, splashy mat! \nFor those who want to push things a little harder\, there are safe 3-star routes all through the grades\, up to 7b+ (!). \nAccommodation is within walking distance of the crag and if the sea state is not suitable for DWS there are plenty of sport climbing\, walking and (rocky) beach options in the area\, as well as trad. and other DWS options within an hour’s drive. \n  \nThe Plan \nMeet up at the accommodation on Friday night (although those who live closer are welcome to join us on Saturday morning). Climb Saturday and Sunday\, before heading home Sunday afternoon / evening. \nThere are a large number of routes and grades at Portland Bill\, so two days will give us plenty of time to explore. DWS is very much like bouldering\, short intense bursts interspaced with chatting / recovering\, so there will be plenty of time for swimming\, paddle boarding and eating ice creams! There is also plenty of sport climbing in the area\, if you want to mix it up. \n  \nWhat to bring \nSwimmers\, large beach towel\, small hand towel\, optional wetsuit\, liquid chalk\, climbing shoes\, waterproof sun lotion\, anything else you want for the beach (i.e. paddle board\, snorkel\, etc.) \n  \nServices \nThere is a supermarket on Portland\, as well as plenty of pubs and takeaways. Portland Bunkhouse also has a kitchen and a BBQ area. \nAccommodation \nLilla and I will be staying in the Portland Bunkhouse (http://www.portlandbunkhouse.com/index.php). At £17 per night and walking distance to the crag (as well as several sport climbing crags)\, what’s not to like?! \nFor those who would rather camp\, there is a basic campsite just up the road\, at Sweet Hill Farm (https://www.pitchup.com/campsites/England/South_West/Dorset/Portland/sweet-hill-farm/?type=4) \n  \nFood \nIf the weather allows then I will be making full use of the bunkhouse’s BBQ area on the Saturday night! There is also a fully equipped kitchen and plenty of takeaways and pubs. \nTransport \nCar is by far the easiest way to both get to Portland and around it.
