Plans are to climb in Coire an t-Sneachda, Coire na Lochain and Hell’s Lum – there are plenty of Grade 1 and 2 climbs, so good introductory climbs and lots to push the grade. Some big Grade 3, 4 and 5s as well, so good stuff for the bold. The walk-ins are quite easy, a drive up to Cairngorm car park, then about 1 to 2 hour walk in on reasonably easy ground for the nearest routes.
The hostel has kitchens and you can bring your own food. Plenty of shops in Aviemore to buy food if you need to. The Skiing Doo is the cheap bar/restaurant we will go to during the trip and we normally finish off with a big night out at one of the hotel restaurants on the last night (Monday).
Something for everyone but there is a focus for those who are planning a first trip to the Alps (August trip to the Ecrins) to get some ice axe and crampon practice in… and maybe some crevasse rescue practice too, if it doesn’t get in the way of climbing…
