Jim McCall

I started climbing in 1994 and I am still keen. I learnt to trad climb on the Gritstone in Derbyshire. This led to further adventures multi-pitch climbing in Wales, The Lakes and Scotland. I am keen on winter mountaineering too, although tend to stick to Grades I and II now. Overseas trips include mountaineering expeditions to South America, (the Bolivian, Ecuadorian and Peruvian Andes), Africa (Moroccan High Atlas), and Europe (French, Italian and Swiss Alps, Spanish Sierra Nevada, Slovak and Polish Tatra, the Norwegian Jotunheimen, Oppland and rondane).

Quite happy out walking, scrambling, climbing and mountaineering, summer or winter. Beginning to get used to climbing limestone and I’ve ticked some trad and sport in Somerset, along with some big multi-pitch stuff in Southern Spain. Favourite routes include any of the big routes on the East Face of Tryfan, Cioch Nose in the Torridon, the ‘Avalanche Wall’ link up on Llwiwedd and the NFR/Rannoch Wall link up were memorable days too… Favourite winter routes must include Bølgen in Rjukan, No2 Gully on the Ben and SC Gully in Glencoe. Cotapaxi in the Andes is my highest summit but I have 26 Alpine summits under my belt and many of those were big days out for me too.

I have the SPSA and ML (Summer) qualifications.
