Mike Walshe

My climbing/mountaineering career started one September evening in the Cock and Hoop Pub when Jim offered to take a group of us to the climbing wall. Due to my love of a good claret, I was put on Jim’s accelerated learning programme and rapidly progressed to the Peak District, the Roaches, Snowdonia and the following August I did a week’s training with the BMC in the Alps (highly recommended) before meeting up with Jim and doing our first, of now several, 4,000m peaks together.
For me, it was a life changing experience, I found it incredibly tough, harder than anything I’d done in my life, but so stunning, beautiful and inspiring. Life changing is the word because after years of never quite managing to settle down, I’m now married, and this year, we had a baby boy.
This has all rather put a hold on my mountaineering adventures, but I’m keen to keep up with it and one day, introduce young Teddy to this great outdoor experience.
