A short trip to the mountains…

Day 1 – Flew into Oslo, a train up to Otta and then a taxi to the trail head (Spranget). 1 hour walk in to Rondvassbu DNT hut.

Day 2 – 2.5 hours to summit of Vinjeronden (2044m), then a further 50 minutes across the saddle to Rondslotten (2178m). A long descent to the Langglupdalen and then a fair walk to Bornholia DNT hut.

Day 3 – A return up the Langglupdalen then a long rising traverse up past Sore Oksle (1779m) to Hogronden (2118m). A tedious descent down the NE ridge and then a couple of hours to Doralseter DNT hut.

Day 4 – A walk south back to the Rondvassdalen, on the West side to take in the Veslesmeden (2015m) but signs of thunder and lightning scared me away about 20 minutes from the summit. A quick retreat down Rondhalsem to my starting point, the Rondvassbu DNT hut.

Day 5 – An early start, 10km walk and a successful hitch to Otta station. A train to Oslo and a night at the Anker Hostel and Cafe Sarah.

Day 6 – Home.

Commentary… 10 summits above 2000m, all accessible, the huts are convenient and provide all services for the trip (DNT membership means they won’t turn you away if you haven’t made a booking), well marked paths and the maps are good…. All in all, a great place to go hill walking and get some +2000m summits in. Easier low options between the huts available. Wild camping options for those who want to carry a big bag… Well worth a visit…
