Snowdonia May 2018

The Danish contingent arrived Thursday afternoon and met up with Andrew and Marion on Little Tryfan for an introduction to leading and just to get climbing on something. We managed several routes and then headed to Idwal Cottage.

Friday saw a big day out on the East Face of Tryfan with two teams (English, Danish, American) leading up First Pinnacle Rib with the infamous Yellow Slab. All the better with high winds, imposing clouds and the threat of rain. We chased up to finish the Yellow Slab before the rain came and the day was made. A sombre drink to Jon on the summit and then back down to complete a route on Bochlwyd Buttress with a walk off as the rains finally arrived.

The American/Canadian party took a walk up the Devil’s Kitchen and summited Y Garn, with a descent down the West Ridge. Another (English) party of four took a trip up Snowdon and made a successful ascent.

Evening saw a regrouping at Idwal with the arrival of more members and a visit from the members who were staying over at the other campsite. Some drinks were poured.

Saturday morning saw an early start for some and a regrouping at Tryfan Bach for the Club’s traditional opportunities for youth to climb and others to practice their leading skills. A full day here and then a trip to Betwys Y Coed to buy additional kit. Others went straight to the pub. Saturday evening saw us all in the Bryn Tyrch to meet up for drinks.

Sunday saw an early departure for the Danish contingent and further climbing in Idwal, with an impressive ascent of Javelin Buttress.

A full trip with over 25 members undertaking climbing (a wide range of grades) and lots of impressive hill walking. Special thanks to Andrew and Marion for food on Thursday, Sean and Jas, for food on Friday and Melanie and Alison, for food on Saturday. And Mike for being designated driver. The Club shared extra food with some hill walkers who arrived looking hungry at the hostel… It was a pleasure!

Thanks to all and I hope you enjoy the pictures.
