A stopover at Castleton YHA to camp allowed Jim to get 10 routes in on Monday before Andrew got there… Met up on Tuesday morning and visited a few Eastern Gritstone crags on Tuesday and Wednesday to get a fair few trad routes in (just to get the mileage up, you understand). Thursday morning led to a visit to the Roaches before the rain arrived at 12:30… and then a run to the cars and a drive to Wales.
Jake joined us at the pub and campsite and then a day on the Milestone (on Friday), with Jade joining us for the first climb. Saturday gave poor weather, though we got some short routes in, and Sunday gave us a day on the Slabs at Idwal before driving over to Keith’s house.
Keith’s house is great and he is planning on hosting the AGM next Spring… 40 minutes got us to Trevor Quarry (limestone) and Graffiti Boulders and more bouldering and sport than we knew what to look at… trad available too. Then a bouldering trip to Monument Quarry, just along the road, for more bouldering. We visited a couple of other local venues and there is something for everyone, at all grades and all disciplines (no Grit), with plenty of walking too. Keith and Gaye kept us fed and watered (wined?), breakfast was great too and we can’t wait to get back over there. And there’s a puppy… (Elsie, since you ask). Routes in Snowdonia are less than 2 hours away and this will be a great place to meet up as Keith as got a large plot with lots of camping space. Look out for updates for the next AGM.
A busy week and Llangollen promises to be the next new spiritual home of the Club… good times ahead.
Hope you enjoy the pictures…
