Two Houses, both alike in dignity! And Will’s Team which apparently didn’t stand a chance from the start but had all the best lines for the Caption Competitions…
Well done to Scottish Ice… You topped out first and bagged the new route! You ran in out, kept your calm and faced the crux on the last pitch (Week 4) – where it should be! Your glories are etched in the annals of time and will be replicated in cheap porcelain… Let there be a presentation of mugs! (Just two… next AGM… don’t ask earlier).
Classic Grit… always the Contender. You could have been King in the North! We all thought you were! You climbed hard, led well and punched through the crux! You were NAILS! But they were made of harder stock… Despite their apparent disorganisation, they had more experience (probably Legend Rick) and they played the wider game, never dropping in their specialisms… But you Guys gave them the run for the money! Climb again, and on another day, you might punch that First Ascent!
Southern Limestone… fighting the North was always going to be hard… They had providence and you were late into the fight. But you never let that deter you. You took a leader fall (or two) but you regrouped, built you team and still finished the route! You may hold your heads high! For a moment, in all that chaos, we all thought you might have won! You will rise again stronger! And you will wear your tragedies as armour! On the parapets of the North, they look South for the next offensive!
